“Let’s do it when the crisis is over.” we often heard when it came to art. That’s when we got curious and did research on and in crises. We were sent to Beirut by the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit to conceptualise artistic practices to improve the situation in schools there.
We had a visual and verbal exchange of ideas with Syrian colleagues between Bonn and Damascus in the project The Online (funded by the NRW Landesbüro Freie Darstellende Künste and the Ministry of Culture and Science) over several months (2019) on the question: How can art work in crises? This resulted in a documentary video and also new visions and insights: 1. dispel aggression through irrational interventions, 2. create free space and reduce pressure, and 3. support one’s own creative capacity.
We are continuing our research.
